Should I stay or should I go?
by olongapo joe inhello all, i love reading all of your experiences, and trials and tribulations ( isn't that very jw'ish)?
while most of my life experiences have almost nothing to do with jw's, as i was never baptized and never believed( in the bible) past the 5th grade, it makes me feel good to contribute a post or two here, i tend to go off on subjects that are probably not very jermaine to the main subject of this site.
i do really enjoy all of your comments and the time and effort simon and the other moderators spend to make this a truly inspiring site.

I laid down a Honda 700cc in 1984, of course totally my fault, drunk and wearing short, t-shirt, and sneakers, and of course sun glasses, but I was a cool dude, my parents were at a circuit assembly, and were called out over the p.a. because my sorry ass was in the hospital. On a side note, I had insurance as I was employed at the time, but my best friend, who was on the back of my bike, and no insurance, I was admitted, he was discharged as treated and released, although almost the same injuries, lots of road rash, no broken brones, laid down the bike after hitting the divider between the on ramp and the hi-way, again totally my fault, drunk and I don't even remember the wreck, just waking up in the hospital. Ahhh good times. Not really just glad to survive. My favorite saying is STILL ALIVE!!! -

Do todays Jw's care at all about Russell and the pyramid?
by olongapo joe injust wondering, as i will be visiting active jw family in ohio in a few weeks, do you think it will be worthwhile dropping it into a conversation, about the wtbts pyramid near his grave, or try some other topic to try and wake them up.
i was never baptized and don't really care if they get upset or not, but it is only a day trip from ohio to pittsburgh, and thought it would be fun if they denied it, and then drove their to see it for ourselves.

how do most of you now feel about the military?
by sowhatnow inwas not sure where to post this, but i was curious, how do some of you now feel about the military?
would any of you let your children enlist, or would you yourselves join any military field?
how do you feel about the idea of women in the military?

I joined the U.S. Navy not out of patriotism, but only for the opportunity to leave my hometown and see the world.
In 20 yrs as an Aircraft Electrician, I never fired a weapon in anger, in fact I only fired a weapon twice in the Navy, once in bootcamp, and once to qualify to carry pistols. I am glad I joined, and would go back in a heartbeat if they needed me.
I have a daughter in the Air Force (Pharmacy Technician) she has been in over 7 yrs, if she stays in, she can draw a pension in 13 more yrs at age of 40 for the rest of her life.
Of course my and my daughters service is much different from frontline trigger pullers, I have the utmost respect for the grunts (diggers for you Aussies). I am ok with women in the military, but not in the front lines. I do not think we should have invaded Iraq, but for the military to work the troops have to follow the LEGAL orders given them.

Booze boy, the middle years.
by olongapo joe inin some of my earlier post, i mention how prevalent booze was (and still is in my life).
now, the only thing this has to do with jw's, is, that, at the time, both my parents were (still are active jw's).
a quick rehash, at one yr. old, my parents become jw's.

In some of my earlier post, I mention how prevalent booze was (and still is in my life). Now, the only thing this has to do with JW's, is, that, at the time, both my parents were (still are active JW's). A quick rehash, at one yr. old, my parents become JW's. At 5th grade (1975) I think about getting baptized and pioneering/missionary service, I think that lasted a few days to a few weeks(hey, it was a long time, and many beers ago). By middle school, 7th grade, I am smoking weed, drinking hard liquor, and just generally being a punk.
I was actually a pretty good student, mostly A's and B's(but sucked at algebra and calculus). I guess the point is, I could have done much better in middle school, if my parents had encouraged doing well in school, and encouraged being competitive in sports. But no such luck (fortune as the JW"s would say). My pops used to say, I only made it to ninth grade, and I turned out ok.Now I never went hungry, or with out shoes and decent clothes, but sports and college was not an option, (doing anything JW would have made them happy beyond belief).
Anyway, getting to the meat of the story, I was anything but a JW after the 7th grade. I was forced to go to meetings until high school, I would mainly check out the sisters in their dresses, fantasize about (things) and go to the bathroom and um, spend some time there, if you know what I mean.
So 9th grade, I have procured a bottle of vodka, and being a budding business man, drink about half the bottle with a couple buddies, and sell the rest to some smuck. The gym teacher, actually a pretty cool guy, comes up to me and says, Olongapo Joe, I smell booze on you, you need to go to the office and tell them you are sick and go home. Being the highly intelligent youth that I am, I of course ignore the advice. So later that day I am called to the principles office, seems the smuck, has been caught with the booze, and ratted me out. So the principle ask me where I came by the liquor ( not wanting to rat out my 30 yr old brother in law who bought the booze for me) I say, some older guy who hangs around the school is selling to us kiddies. Of course the principle wants to know who this knucklehead is, I aint saying, cause he is a figment of my imagination. So I am expelled, until I give up who bought me the booze, I am not gonna give up my bil, as luck (fortune haha) would have it my older brother returned that week from a construction job, and went and told the principle that he got the booze for me. That was all the principle wanted to know, so I am back in school ,and still a punk.
This is going to long, so to speed things up a bit.
I graduated high school 1983.
!st DUI 1983.
2nd DUI 1984
Hit and run 1984 (should have been a 3rd DUI, as I was drunk).
Too many to count black out drunken escapades( I do not count these as a badge of honor, I could have many times killed or injured innocents) many with my alcoholic JW father, and an elder also a hardcore alcoholic, I had been to the state liquor store in our town (Piqua Ohio) so many times with my pops and the elder (he did not drive, so asked us to take him to the store weekly) that at 15 yrs old I often bought hard liquor at the state store and was never once asked for I.D..
So that's a condensed version of the middle years, next, the later years Booze Boy (locked up abroad, Philippines).

"Always submit to the Church Administration", everybody sing it now!!
by WingCommander inhere's a wonderfully sickening video from another cult, the "church of christ".
have a listen and tell me if it doesn't remind you of a certain familiar jw tune, namely, "listen, obey, and be blessed!
this is crazy, just crazy!

My girlfriend here in the Philippines went to this outfit (IGLESIA NI CRISTO) she left because if they found out we were living together they would kick her out or shun her. So now she goes to Catholic church for an hour on Sundays. This IGLESIA church is pretty big here, I believe they also tithe. -

Would you kill for the org?.......YES I WOULD!
by olongapo joe inso, a few years ago my jw parents, my non jw sister and her husband, and myself were discussing religion and jw beliefs.
my parents of course defending the jw's, the rest of us, against jw's ( it may not have been specifically against jw's, maybe just religion in general) anyway, things are getting a little heated, and i finally ask my pops, if the watchtower bible and tract society told you to go out and start killing muslims, would you do it?
yes i would, was his reply, to which i say, then your not any different than the radical muslims killing in the name of religion.

Booze Boy, The Early Years
by olongapo joe insomeone commented on an old post, "jw's attract a lot of misfits and alcoholics" yep, fits my family to a t. booze was at every family reunion, party, picnic, you name it, if my family was gonna be there, there was gonna be lots of booze.
my pops was cheap (he dropped out of school in the 9th grade, so only worked low paying jobs) so to save money on beer, he and my uncle decide to make some homebrew (this is in the early 70's, before all the beer brewing kits you can get now).
they got a recipe from some old codger, dug up an old 30 gallon crock from god only knows where, and commences to buying cans of malt, bags of sugar, cases of empty bottles, a hand operated capping machine the whole nine yards, oh, it was a big operation, yep, were gonna save a bundle on beer!.

So the first batch gets mixed, and sits in the basement a couple of weeks. The anticipation is building, cheap tasty homebrew, man is this gonna be great! So the big day comes, gonna taste the nectar of the gods, well, it wasn't quite nectar of the gods, more like bathwater of the gods! This stuff was murky, bitter tasting crap! Did we throw it out you ask? Hell no, bottled every drop of it, must have taken two months to choke down all that swill. Well that was the end of the homebrewing, back to drinking that stuff in the white can that just says BEER
